现代大学人文精神失落的信仰救治

【摘要】 近年来,人文精神的失落已经成为我国大学发展中的一个非常突出问题。从信仰-知识的现代性视角来看,对知识的过度强调是这种失落的根本原因。因此如何平衡二者在大学发展中的地位就成为解决我国大学人文精神失落问题的根本所在。美国虽然是一个以实用主义哲学为主导的国家,但当今的美国大学却依然保持着浓郁的人文气息。因此,通过回顾美国现代大学发展中“信仰-知识”关系的处理能够为解决我国大学人文精神的失落提供一点借鉴及启示。根据处理信仰-知识关系的哲学观的不同,可以将美国现代大学的发展分为三个阶段。第一阶段为信仰-知识综合体阶段,大致从南北战争到第一次世界大战结束。第二阶段为信仰本位阶段,大致从第一次世界大战结束到20世纪30年代后期。第三阶段为20世纪30年代后期至60年代以来。就美国现代大学发展中信仰-知识关系的这种变迁而言,其主要的特点有三个。一是重视信仰在大学发展中的地位;二是哲学观的变迁主要是一种客观的选择;三是采取了灵活、多样化的措施保护信仰在大学中的地位。结合美国现代大学发展的特点,救治我国大学人文精神失落的根本措施就是要重塑儒学在大学发展中的地位。但重塑儒学并不意味着要否定知识的一面,而是要坚持“信仰-知识和合”的哲学观,这样我国的大学才能朝着健康的方向发展。
【Abstract】 Abstract: In resent years, the loss of humanism has become a serious problem in the development of Chinese universities. From the point of view of faith- knowledge of modernity, over-emphasizing on knowledge is the main reason for the loss. Therefore, how to balance faith and knowledge in the development of universities is the basic step in solving the loss of humanism. Pragmatism is the main philosophy for Americans, but the present American universities still keep humanism alive. As the result, to trace the development of modern American universities in dealing with the relationship“faith-knowledge”can be helpful for solving the loss of humanism in Chinese universities.According to the different philosophical views in dealing with faith- knowledge, the development of modern American universities can be divided into three periods. The first period is faith-knowledge synthesis, from the Civil War to World War I. The second period is knowledge-dominated period, from the end of World War I to 1930s. The third period is faith-knowledge reconciliation period, from 1930s to 1960s. As far as the change of faith-knowledge relationship in the development of modern American universities to be concerned, there are three characteristics: a) great attention being paid to faith in the development of universities; b) the change of philosophical views being mainly the objective result; c) flexible, various measures being taken to protect the role of faith in universities. Based on the characteristics of the development of modern American universities, the basic measure of curing for the loss of humanism in Chinese universities is to put Confucianism in an important place. However, emphasizing on Confucianism doesn’t mean rejecting knowledge, but means making faith and knowledge harmonious in universities, only by which can universities develop healthily.
