Study on activity of the Red River Fault Zone
【Abstract】 The Red River Fault Zone is a gigantic sliding fault zone beginning from the east of Qinzang plateau in the north to the northwest of Yunnan, and passing through the north of Vietnam, and then extending to South China Sea, the whole length is over 1000km. Based on the contacted relationship between the old pre-Cenozoic massif in Indochina Peninsula and the South China massif, the Red River Fault Zone was divided into two parts extending from land to ocean, north and south segments. Since the Tertiary period, the Red River Fault Zone suffered the sinistral movement, dextral movement and local rotation. The activities of the north and the south segments were different. The activities of the north segment were violent at the end of the north in modern time where many earthquakes M≥60 occurred, today the activities of the south segment are calmer.
