【Abstract】 Chiwei is one of the most distinctive ornaments on roof ridges of the Chinese ancient buildings in the South. Afteran in-depth discussion of the origin and evolution of Chiwei,we conclude that Chiwei was created as phoenix and later transformed into fish. This transformation is ascribable to the influence of folk culture in the South,Makara in Hindu mythology and the huge legendary turtle in local mythology.更多还原
