新媒介与中国当代艺术变革

【摘要】 媒介作为艺术实践最根本、最主要的载体,应该是理论研究和创作实践的核心问题之一。当下中国恰逢一个媒介威力被空前地强调的时代,艺术家们通过各种手段形式及跨界性的当代艺术生产,诸如各类实验性艺术,综合装置、影像艺术,计算机新媒体等,来表达对传统艺术审美形式的怀疑,当代艺术媒介的样式诸如装置、影像、多媒体等也更多地将形式提升到内容之上,所以由此暴露出行进当中的中国当代艺术的诸多问题,衍生出各种褒贬不一的评判,应该说,新媒介作为当代艺术发展过程中的重要现象,它一方面以艺术方式、手段的更新为其标志,同时也因为这种媒介手段的转换而带来艺术史中关于艺术本体的重新反思,并激发了更为宽广的艺术观念的表述空间,甚至进而介入社会思想的反思之中。人们开始探讨怀疑什么是艺术?艺术该不该有底线?艺术的价值何在?对于新媒介艺术的研究,首先需要思考的问题就是:新媒介艺术到底是剔除传统艺术中以油画颜料和雕塑材料为代表的传统媒介之外的所有艺术样式呢,还是另有所指、另有涵盖?可以说,这也是对新媒介艺术的语言特性进行考察的必要前提。针对这一问题,本文试图从历史性的线性逻辑出发,将新媒介置于一个当代艺术不断推进的动态过程中阐释,并将当代艺术理解为一种历时性的当代概念,区别于以往习惯与特定审美要求的狭义上的艺术形式所指。本文试图跳出纷繁复杂的概念争论,抛开文化语境的变化、全球化等方面的影响,找到一条客观的思维脉络来诠释当代艺术媒介分化、发展、演变等问题。以中国当代艺术创作实践的媒介应用为基点,从中国当代艺术发展的这一过程中提炼出关于媒介的本体问题,包括媒介与观念、艺术与技术、媒介与审美,媒介与文化意识形态等问题,发掘中国当代艺术的变革成因是具有现实意义的。通过研究中国当代艺术家及其作品借以不同媒介传递出的形式、技巧、观念等方面的信息做出思考,以一种相对接近历史真实的方式还原当代艺术发展、演进过程中不断新生的媒介运用——与传统美术史不同的在作品中运用诸如综合材料、身体、现成品、装置、录像、摄影、数码技术、网络媒介等新材料、新语言的手段、途径,并进而考察这类媒介运用对于艺术本体介入社会思想演进所发生的功能与作用,以达到对中国当代艺术作一个基本理性判断和清晰定位。

【Abstract】 Media, as a primary and fundamental carrier of art practice, should be treated as one of the core problems during the research of art theories and art creation. Today, the importance of media power is emphasized unprecedentedly. Artists express their doubt to traditional aesthetic objects by various forms and cross-border creation of contemporary art, such as experimental arts, comprehensive installation, video art and digital new media. These media pay more attention to forms than to content, which bring a lot of problems and controversial judgments to developing Chinese contemporary art. On one hand, it takes the update of art expression as its symbol; On the other hand, it causes rethinking about art noumenon in art history. These new media enlarge the space of art expression, and even affect the reflection of social thoughts. We begin to explore what the art is. Whether should art have a bottom line? What’s the value of art?In the research of new media art, the first question is:Whether does it mean a form of art which rejects traditional art media, such as oil paint and sculpture materials, or something else? This is a prerequisite for the study of new media art language. To answer this question, this paper tries to elaborate new media art in the dynamic process of contemporary art starting from historic linear logic, and treats contemporary art as a historic contemporary concept which is different from narrowly defined art form required by formerly usual practice and specific aesthetics. To answer this question, this paper steps out of arguments of complicated concepts and tries to analyze the information of forms, technology, and concept which coved by Chinese contemporary artists and their works. Based on the media application of Chinese contemporary art, this paper will refine the question of art media noumenon from the development process of Chinese contemporary art, which includes questions of media and concepts, media and technology, media and aesthetics, media and ideologies. It has practical significance to the research of Chinese contemporary art. It restores the new media application which is relatively closer to the reality of history in the development process of contemporary art and different from the traditional art history, such as comprehensive materials, bodies, ready objects, installation, video, photography, digital technology, and network media and so on. Moreover, it researches the function and effects of these media application when art noumenon is involving into evolution of social thoughts so as to make basically reasonable judgment and orientation to Chinese contemporary art.
