【Abstract】 Yao literature in America is a"collective memory"of the Yao people kept in forms of oral narration and written texts,revealing the legends of the Yao ethnic origin and the history of cross-border migrations. This "memory"has the functions of cultural preservation and cultural identity: Some of the core symbols constitute an essential part of the memory chain, and a basis of Yao American ’ s cultural reconstruction under their new living environments.
