【Abstract】 Tracing back to the analysis tradition of “nationalism” of the German Historical School and according to the influence scope of “national capacity” and the stage of national growth, the connotation of “national capacity” is deconstructed into the following four levels, “the ability to protect the country from aggression and maintain its own security and stability”, “the ability to independently choose and firmly implement its own development path”, “the ability to reconcile internal contradictions, protect the ability to adapt to and promote the development of domestic productive forces”, and “the ability to reconcile international relations and affect the world development pattern and order”. In the 100 years since the founding of the Party, the evolution of China’s national capacity has gone through four stages: the period of national liberation and the creation of the national noumenon, the period of exploring the path of independent development, the period of adjusting the mode of production and the period of expanding the influence of the world pattern. The four stages spiral along the four levels of “national capacity”. In this process, the establishment and development of the Communist Party of China has had a direct and far-reaching impact on the shaping of national capacity.
