【Abstract】 Numerals are widely used in the construction"numeral+distinguishing word+(noun)", conveying such meanings as "rank, level, rate". The higher rank/level/rate and the larger number may be either in agreement or in opposite. The study from the perspective of conceptual metaphors on its cog-nitive mechanism can explain the metaphorical meanings of numerals and illustrate the relationship be-tween numerals and rank/level/class by nature. The study shows the difference results from two different cognitive processes of the same metaphor. The metaphorical meanings of numerals studied in thispaper are the result of continuous multiple mappings from the same source domain"quantity"to several target domains. And the concepts in these target domains are closely related.更多还原
