【Abstract】 The roofs of office buildings inside Overseas Chinese Town of Shanghai have become the secret garden of employees.On a roof of over two hundred square meters,green vegetables are grown inside plastic fences.Employees working at the building cultivate during breaks,making vegetable juices and reap some for their supper. The Vegetable Roof in reality is an experiment by Zhu Shengxuan,head of Oriental Garden Design Group.He is very proud of this green economic business model which combines the roof greening and agriculture. The shanghai government has proposed in its"twelfth five-year plan"’ to add 1.5 million square meters of greening,including one million roof greening.This can mean a big business chance. According to related data,there are about 20 million square meters roof suitable for greening. Traditionally,roof greening is a pure commonwealth activity without any output.With the popularity of"farm rush"in modern cities and increasingly fierce food safety problem,an idea came to Zhu:why not put roof greening and vegetable growing together? Zhu and his team worked hard on realization of this idea,cracking various problems.Their experimental garden at Overseas Chinese Town achieved a success with all vegetables sold out.
